FRIDAY

Today is the final post this week using Embossing Paste.  Here is the card and then I will give you step by step directions.

Here is how I got to this point:
  • First I cut a stencil out of Thick White Cardstock using the large butterfly from the Butterfly Thinlits.  I laid it down on the black piece of card stock and used three colors of paste to colors the sections I wanted.  In the paste I mixed Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Tangerine Tango.  This is what my stencil looked like after I pulled it off of the black piece.

  • I then dumped Dazzling Diamonds Glitter onto the black piece so that it would stick to the colored paste and heated it. I tapped off the excess and even used a soft bristle brush to brush off any excess.

  • To get the message to match, I put Crushed Curry Embossing Paste right onto my stamp.  You need to make sure you have some excess around the edges of the stamp so that your message will actually show up.  I just stamped the stamp directly onto the card stock , added my Dazzling Diamonds as I did for the butterfly, and heated it.

  • I wanted to have the whole butterfly on the paper so I cut another butterfly out of black card stock.  I laid it on top of the Embossing Paste image and glued it down with Tombow.

I added one of the new jewels to the center and mounted the black piece onto a base of Tangerine Tango.  I was thinking about going around the outside edge of the butterfly with a white gel pen, but not sure if I will do that or not.  I could also go over the black butterfly image with the Wink of Stella to make it pop a little.
I think it turned out nicely, but it does look better in real life.
This was a little labor intensive, but is certainly worth it for a special occasion or for a special person.  Try your hand at using any die for this technique and see what you get.
